Specialty K9 Search and Recovery, Inc is based out of Northern NJ, on the NJ/NY State border in West Milford Township. We are a non-profit 501c3 organization.

We operate at no cost to the agencies or families and rely solely on the generous contribution of our supporters. We respond at the request of an official law enforcement, fire, or other affiliate agencies.

Our primary service area consists of all of Northern and Central NJ, Southern NY State, Western CT, and Eastern Pennsylvania. We do respond further based upon request.

Our team consists of K9 handlers with decades of experience in search and rescue and scent detection.

We have 3 certified K9 handler teams with 4 dogs. 2 dogs certified in air-scent (live find), 4 dogs certified in cadaver/human remains detection, and 3 dogs certified in water recovery. Our dogs are certified through NYSFEDSAR, IPWDA, and meet or exceed the standards of SARCNJ. We are also staffed with flankers and support staff. All members are skilled in navigation, digital mapping, cpr/first aid, crime scene preservation, BBP, Hazmat, radio comms, the ICS structure and more.

Our most experienced handlers have 40+ years of experience serving the SAR community in the K9 scent detection disciplines of air-scent/live find, cadaver/HRD, and water recovery. Their real world search experience and success have made them experts in lost person behavior. Therefore, as part of our services, we can assist agencies with planning high probability areas and how to best utilize K9 resources for optimal success.

We search in wooded or wilderness areas, parks, ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, dense or tall grass, structures and buildings, and vehicles.

Subject categories that we search for include:
overdue hikers, hunters, lost children, Alzheimer's patients, autistic adults and children, despondents, at risk persons, homicides, forensic and cold cases, drownings, aircraft, building collapses and natural disasters.

In addition to providing search resources, our team can also provide K9 SAR presentations and demos to agencies and the public based upon request.
